Last day in Lord Howe
You know when your Holiday is ending, everything starts to run out. You use the last tea bag, the milks gone, the cereals out, the soap is nearly finished and the beer has vanished.
Today was that day the last day. We spent this morning down at Ned’s Beach snorkel ling and feeding the fish. We are professionals now and we sat and watched the new comers with amusement. Today the “Island Trader” is sitting off shore from Ned’s, we presume awaiting high tide prior to moving into the lagoon.
Around 1.30 the clouds rolled in and it started to threaten rain. We packed up our gear and walked home.
The last day we had to return our bikes, helmets and snorkeling gear. The place is closed on Saturday but it doesn’t matter. In true Island style you just park your bike in front of the garage with all the others and it gets picked up eventually.
As you flew out in the little Dash 8 and got the last glimpse of the island you could not help have a tear in your eye and wonder if you would every get back to this place. It was like going back to a time in our distant pasts of the middle 1950’s, I hope they do not progress too much in the future.
