Plane on the road, Mungerannie hotel, finished with a spar

Good Old Chinwagging Posted on 21 August 2007 by Chinwagger21 December 2017

We were up reasonably early and we both wandered off for our showers. The morning was freezing and everybody even the rally blokes had their beanies pulled tight down over their ears. They were standing around their brightly painted cars sipping from steaming hot coffee mugs instead of the frosty tubes of beer their drink yesterday afternoon. Conversations were a mixture … Continue reading →

Birdsville

Good Old Chinwagging Posted on 19 August 2007 by Chinwagger30 September 2019

Last night was really cold we went to bed in long johns and T-shirts. I set the alarm for 5.30am however when it went off it was too cold to get up and still dark and very quiet. It was one of the quietest nights I have experienced. There was no insect or wildlife noise and certainly no humans. The … Continue reading →

After a simple breakfast we headed the five minutes into town and up to the Big Blue I to find out more about heading to Birdsville. Convinced this was not on because of the weather we need to start to make alternative plans. … Continue reading →

Duaringa Hotel

Good Old Chinwagging Posted on 19 June 2004 by Alison Herring21 December 2017

It was close to 9am by the time we left Charters Towers on Saturday morning. We are all fuelled up and on the road south to Emerald. Much the same scenery as yesterday, but with a few more cars and less road trains. We drove through Emerald just after 2pm, so we agreed on 3.30 as our “stop and look … Continue reading →

Kuranda to Charters Towers via Australia’s smallest pub

Good Old Chinwagging Posted on 18 June 2004 by Alison Herring16 January 2016

We ordered a bottle of wine, and the girl serving us went out the back for it. She couldn’t find the one we wanted, so she went to the bottle store for it. We got it at the bottle store, price instead of the over the counter price, which is usually a few dollars dearer. You gotta love these back country pubs.
